Heroes of London
The V&A now documents this all as history, part of our culture, when it started (indeed like most world-changing art) as arrogant, defiant, assertive, even mean spirited. Now they are saints, and their songs can race through our minds in our internal radio. It was odd, but beautiful, to seeing old men, women, mouthing the words to White Rabbit, accompanied by their ambient open-eared (open minded?) Sennheisers.
Yet my children were baffled. Would I have been baffled if old aunts and uncles sat me down to listen to Charlie Parker, Monk, Coltrane, Bitches Brew? Louis Prima?
Is history now moving so much water than we can incorporate into a 'historical' perspective? I wonder if it makes any sense.
